Landfill Remediation Strategy Advice for Environment Agency Wales

Stratus Environmental have recently been commissioned by the Environment Agency Wales to undertake a desk study review and remediation strategy options assessment for a landfill site where operations have been suspended.
The assessment will provide for advice on the current in-situ management, containment or removal of a leachate outbreak, which is currently leaving site and entering the local hydraulic environment. Also consideration is being given of the available options regarding the management of the site in the longer term should the decision be made to leave the bulk of the waste in-situ to include management of the leachate, gas management and any other associated issues. The commission will take into account for the option of removal of the unsuitable wastes from site, and advice on the technical aspects and management of this, including works validation.
The approach to the commission is to take a holistic view of the site, and look how the overriding aims of environmental protection can be achieved in the most cost effective manner.
